Now that fall is officially here in Lowell, Arkansas, it’s time to get your furnace maintained so that it will work smoothly and efficiently during the cold winter months. As a homeowner, there are several tasks you can do to help with the maintenance of your furnace, but some tasks should be left to a professional HVAC contractor.
You Can Change the Air Filters
Over time, dirt and dust get trapped in the furnace’s air filter, which restricts the airflow. Clogged filters reduce the efficiency of the furnace, which causes your energy bills to rise and adds wear and tear to the system. Change the air filters at least once per month to keep the system running smoothly.
You Can Clean the Vents and Registers
Once a month, after changing the filter, check that the return vents are free of dust that accumulates during the summer. Wipe down the vents and registers and remove obstructions, such as furniture, rugs, or wall hangings. Keeping the vents clean and open helps the furnace to deliver warm air efficiently into your home.
Leave It to the Professionals
Furnaces are complex systems that require special tools and knowledge to maintain. When we come for a maintenance visit, we have an extensive checklist that includes some of the following tasks. We make sure the ignition and burners are working properly and that the flue is open and unobstructed. We lubricate and inspect all moving parts and check that the belts to the blower fan are solid with no cracks in them. We look for any issues that might cause problems in the future and fix them before they cause a breakdown.
